Fundraising for Hurricane Sandy in US Northeast
We will begin our fundraising effort on November 15 (Thurs) to assist in the recovery of New York City, which suffered massive destruction from Hurricane Sandy that hit the Northeastern region of the United States on October 29.
This relief effort is aimed at showing our support to the New York City Marathon, which is one of the World Marathon Majors (WMM) and was cancelled due to the devastation, including hard-hit Staten Island that serves as the starting point for the marathon.
The donations will go toward relief efforts for victims through the American Red Cross.

The Tokyo Marathon has grown to its current size by weaving the hearts of the runners, volunteers, and cheering spectators into one. In an attempt to reach out to a greater number of people through our socially committed actions and to establish greater solidarity, after the Tokyo Marathon 2011 we instituted the companion charity program "Tsunagu." Donations go to charitable activities in various fields according to the basic concept of "Tsunagu," or solidarity. We expect that by collecting not only empathy (donations) from each of you, but also the empathy (donations) of your friends and family, more people will participate in the Tokyo Marathon "TSUNAGU" Charity.
Among individuals donating ¥100,000 or more, those who wish to participate in the marathon can do so as charity runners for a particular charitable activity (full marathon only; up to 3,000 runners on a first-come, first-served basis).
Six specific focus areas—tomorrow, family, future, life, dream, and smile– have been selected to benefit from our "Tsunagu" activities. Eleven participating organizations have been selected based on these focus areas to create a system where each donator can choose the program he or she is interested in.
We have also established a charity to provide relief funds for victims of Hurricane Sandy, which hit the Northeastern region of the United States on October 29.
*The purpose of use of the donations can be selected from the 12 businesses above.
||Donations can be earmarked for a specific charity program of one of the 11 organizations, according to the six themes. However, note that charity programs may change due to natural disasters, war, suspension, or other unforeseen factors.
