With its theme,"The Day We Unite," Tokyo Marathon has grown significantly by bringing together the hearts of runners as well as its many volunteers and supporters. In an attempt to reach out to a greater number of people through our socially committed actions and to establish greater solidarity, we have implemented the charity program "TSUNAGU" since Tokyo Marathon 2011.
Donations go to charitable activities in various fields according to the basic concept of "TSUNAGU," in other words, solidarity. We expect that by receiving empathy (donations) from not only each of you, but also from your friends and family, more people could participate in the Tokyo Marathon "TSUNAGU" Charity.

Among individuals donating ¥100,000 or more, those who wish to participate in the marathon can do so as charity runners for a particular charitable activity (full marathon only; up to 3,000 runners on a first-come, first-served basis).

About Charity Runners

The charity runners will represent all supporters by running the Tokyo Marathon, carrying and spreading the message of goodwill embedded in every donation along with the objectives of the charity programs. They will play the role of helping people develop a deeper understanding of the charity program and encouraging people to stand up for a good cause.

For this reason, the charity runners will be asked to wear the specially designed and colored Charity Runner T-shirts distributed to the charity runners only. The backside of the charity T-shirt is intentionally left blank, so that the runner can express, in their own words, their thoughts about running for a good cause, or any other message they wish to communicate to other runners and spectators on the sidewalk and in front of TV, to create a strong impression about the charity runners and the charity activities they are involved in.
