Providing and promoting sport activities for intellectually disabled people

Special Olympics Nippon

The Special Olympics, an international sports organization, aims to help intellectually disabled people become more involved in their communities: the organization provides opportunities all year round to receive training in a variety of sporting events and to participate in an athletic meet to demonstrate the results of their training.
The 6th Special Olympics Nippon National Summer Games Fukuoka 2014 is scheduled to take place in Fukuoka prefecture over three days, from November 1st to 3rd, 2014. About 1,500 people from all over Japan will participate. This athletic meet is also intended to select participants for the Special Olympics World Summer Games 2015, which will take place in Los Angeles, California, in the United States. Through sports, the organization tries to expand the opportunities for intellectually disabled athletes and support their involvement in society.
